History behind the Peep at the coops event

"Peep at the Coops" began as a quirky idea among East Dallas neighbors, sparked by the urban chicken coop craze. What started as a neighborhood tour to support local nonprofits has grown into a beloved annual event, attracting thousands with its blend of feathery fun and community spirit. Initially hatched by Edible magazine to celebrate sustainable urban living, hosted first at Stonewall Elementary, then Mockingbird Elementary, then Moss Haven Elementary and is now run by Moss Haven Farm's non-profit, attracting thousands with its unique charm and community spirit. After a brief pause in 2020 and 2021, we've fluffed our feathers and are back and better than ever, continuing our mission to promote urban gardening and local food sourcing in DFW.

Here's to clucking our way through another decade of "Peep at the Coops"!

    ABOUT Moss Haven Farm

In addition to enriching academics, our program seeks to spark positive growth in our students’ families and our community.

Seeds sown on a simple grassy patch in March 2012 have now grown to 23 raised beds, a farm field, and chicken coop. Moss Haven Farm has been recognized as an American Heart Association Teaching Garden and has been awarded United Way’s Healthy Zone School. Learn more by visiting our website at mosshavenfarm.org.
